Dzień 9 grudnia 2005 r. był szczególnym dniem w Zespole Szkół Ogólnokształcących i Policealnych w Nowym Tomyślu, ponieważ po raz pierwszy odbył się w naszej szkole ENGLISH DAY tzn. Dzień Języka Angielskiego. Jego celem miało być uatrakcyjnienie nauki tego języka, jak również zwiększenia motywacji uczniów do pogłębiania jego znajomości.
W tym celu został opracowany bogaty program, którego założeniem było zaangażowanie wszystkich klas, oczywiście odpowiednio do ich poziomu znajomości języka. W przygotowaniach, trwających kilka tygodni, wzięli udział nauczyciele oraz ponad 100 licealistów.
I tak, klasy pierwsze uczestniczyły w konkursie na literowanie słów po angielsku, podczas gdy uczniowie klas drugich i trzecich wzięli udział w konkursie z wiedzy na temat kultury krajów anglojęzycznych. Uczniowie przygotowali się tak dobrze, że były problemy z wytypowaniem zwycięzcy i ostatecznie zostały nagrodzone trzy klasy.
Pięć klas przygotowało pięć 10 minutowych prezentacji multimedialnych na temat Wielkiej Brytanii, Irlandii, USA, Kanady i Australii. Ze względu na możliwości zaprezentowania ich przy użyciu projektora na dużym ekranie, cała impreza odbyła się w sali kina Nowości. Prezentacje te zawierały zdjęcia miejsc, osób, symboli, potraw czy zwierząt charakterystycznych dla tych krajów, ale również fragmenty piosenek i meczu, a towarzyszył im słowny komentarz na żywo oczywiście w j. angielskim.
Impreza miała jednak mieć nie tylko edukacyjny charakter, ale i być dobrą zabawą, dlatego wszystkim klasom przydzielono przedstawienie skeczy lub dowcipów po angielsku. Przewijały się one przez cały program a gromki śmiech na sali był najlepszym dowodem na to, że był to dobry pomyśl.
Jury nagrodziło po dwa najlepiej przedstawione skecze i dowcipy. Nagrodzono również trzy prezentacje multimedialne.
Imprezie towarzyszył też konkurs poetycki (dla chętnych) na najlepsze tłumaczenie wiersza
w j. angielskim na j. polski.
Ogółem wręczono 20 atrakcyjnych nagród (w postaci sprzętu sportowego m.in. plecaki, namioty, elektroniczne tarcze do gry w rzutki, piłki i koszulki).
Całość prowadzona była przez dwoje konferansjerów, uczniów klas trzecich, oczywiście po angielsku.
Zadbano też o wizualną oprawę tego dnia. W tym celu uczniowie wykonali i umieścili anglojęzyczne napisy na drzwiach wszystkich ważniejszych pomieszczeń w szkole, a na ścianach zawisły złote myśli i przysłowia angielskie oraz pięć plakatów przedstawiających ww. kraje anglojęzyczne, z których jury wybrało i nagrodziło najlepszy.
W tym dniu rzeczywiście cała szkoła żyła językiem angielskim, który, choć na jakiś czas, przestał być tylko kolejnym (nie najłatwiejszym) przedmiotem szkolnym (i maturalnym) a stał się okazją do ciekawej i dobrej zabawy.
